Experience Matters

We believe that experience is one of the best ways to learn. We know that when you are involved in the process, you are more invested in the outcome. That is why we incorporate a wide range of activities into our curriculum that help our students become fully engaged in planning for their future.

Beyond Traditional

Forget everything you ever thought about public education and check your ego at the door. Time to take control of your own life and get to work. If you're ready, we're ready! That goes for teachers too.

Technology Matters

Covid-19 has drop-kicked education into the future. How technology will now be used is no longer controlled by schools but by those who have never lived without it. Carleton Project staff have known for a long time that it is vital that we listen to them and are open to new ideas about their digital world.

Dressed for Success

Carleton has a long list of successes and we want to share their stories. Soon, you will be able to return to this site and read some of those stories.
in the words of our graduates.

Relaxed Learning

We are living in a world that offers so much more than we can ever comprehend. At the same time, we have important decisions to make every day. Life can be complicated and makes us all experiential learners by default. But if you are not good to yourself, you won’t be much good to anyone else. At Carleton, you will learn about yourself first, before you take on the world, and we’ll help you with that. Relax, you’ve got this!

Creative Environment

Houlton, Maine might seem like it doesn’t offer much to its younger citizens but Alton Kelly, a pioneer of the 1960s psychedelic art movement and famous poster and album cover artist started his life here. He is credited with the now famous Grateful Dead logo. Samantha Smith was the youngest American Ambassador who visited the USSR when she was only 12 years old and helped ease tensions between the two countries. They both changed the world and you can too. We’ll help you get started with your own community and you can take it from there! You’ll be surprised at how many great people have chosen to make Houlton their home.

Unique Activities

Engagement is everything. We are all unique and there is no way to engage everyone in the same way and at the same time. That is why public schools can’t always meet the needs of all students. Activities at Carleton Project are geared toward the individual learner and are anchored in the uniqueness of each student.

“Awesome staff, individualized learning.”

"It was an real incredible experience for my daughter. The staff at Carleton Project really got her excited to learn. She was getting me up to take her to school! What?!"
Jane D.
“I don't know where I would be today if it hadn't been for your support. Carleton was a sanctuary for me when I needed it the most but it also became my family.”
